UAE-Kenya Joint Commission Concludes Inaugural Session, Sets Future Cooperation Goals

UAE, 14 August, 2024 :  The inaugural session of the UAE-Kenyan Joint Commission concluded in Nigeria, co-chaired by UAE Foreign Affairs Minister H.H. Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan and Kenyan counterpart Moses Wetangula. The commission agreed to hold the next meeting in Abu Dhabi.

Sheikh Abdullah highlighted the importance of following up on the commission’s recommendations and emphasized the strong, growing relationship between the two countries, supported by UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki.

Discussions covered economic, trade, and investment relations, with a focus on opportunities for private sector involvement. Trade between the UAE and Kenya reached AED 2 billion in 2008. The agenda included negotiations on a double-taxation agreement, investment data exchange, and cooperation in areas like civil aviation, agriculture, and petrochemicals.

The two-day meeting also explored cooperation in tourism, higher education, finance, environmental protection, and agricultural production.
